Despite a blustery and at times rainy day there was a fantastic turn out to our birthday party, some 70 people braved the weather to join our celebration of 5 years of community and gardening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was great to see so many people there and a special thanks to our local members of parliament John Carey and Patrick Gorman, the CoV councillors, Susan Gontaszewski (Deputy Mayor), Alex Castle, Joanne Fotakis, Dan Logan and the soon to start new CEO of COV David MacLennon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks also to Vincent Men\u2019s Shed<\/a> for letting us use their kitchen and toilet area, Transition Town Vincent<\/a> and The Roaming Recycler<\/a> for setting up their displays and North Perth Tennis Club<\/a> for opening their toilets for us also.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The birthday cake caused a collective intake of breathe it looked stunning and was incredibly tasty, a great array of refreshments including plates made with produce from the garden for guests to partake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A short talk by Assoc Prof Andrea Gaynor, historian from UWA on The History of Urban Food Production \u2013 Including a North Perth Perspective<\/em><\/a> was really interesting and well attended. Who would have thought Smith\u2019s Lake was once a shared home to market gardens, a night soil depot, piggeries and dairy cattle \u2013 Thank god for modern Health Regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whilst the adults talked the kids were entertained making a creative bunch of scarecrows, who now find themselves seated around the garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was great to see so many other members of the community come and celebrate with us today and we look forward to many more years contributing to the community of Vincent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
